Initiative to boost local small business online presence

Nillumbik Shire Council is introducing an exciting new short-term digital marketing mentoring initiative aimed at enhancing the online presence of local small businesses. Sessions are being offered at no cost, providing a unique and invaluable opportunity for Nillumbik local businesses to enhance their digital capabilities. Nillumbik Mayor Ben Ramcharan said this free initiative comes in response to the findings of Council’s 2022 Annual Business Survey. “The survey revealed that 43 per cent of businesses identified marketing programs as a top service they would utilise, while 34 per cent listed digital marketing as an immediate operational priority” Cr Ramcharan said.Small Nillumbik based businesses can book the sessions via the online link. Council’s Digital Support Officer will arrange to conduct two personalised one-on-one sessions. The in-person modules will be up to one hour in duration, Website Success Express and Social Media Strategy, have been designed to equip local businesses with valuable digital skills and time-saving tricks.Here’s how Website Success Express and Social Media Strategy can benefit your business:

  • Provide general tips and guidance on optimising your business website for success
  • Generate ideas on how to effectively engage your target audience
  • Acquire essential knowledge about the basics of social media platforms
  • Conduct an audit of your existing digital channels to identify areas for improvement

Improve Tourism In The Region

Council is an active partner of Yarra Ranges Tourism. Through this partnership, we invite you to participate in a short online survey about tourism in Nillumbik and, more broadly, the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges Region, including Nillumbik.

Yarra Ranges Tourism is embarking on an important project to create a Destination Management Plan – a 10-year strategic masterplan to support all aspects of managing the visitor economy.

Business in Nillumbik Toolkit 

Your guide to Business in Nillumbik toolkit has been designed to help businesses navigate the many areas of Council that are involved when starting or growing a business. 

The Kit introduces Council’s business support program and ways for local businesses to connect and network. Shire Wide Events Calendar 

Through this events calendar, Nillumbik Shire Council promotes community-run, charity and non-profit events taking place in the Shire of Nillumbik. Find out more about how you can get involved with an event being held near your place of business. You can also submit details of your own event for promotion. 

Living and Learning Nillumbik 

There are Living and Learning centres located in Eltham, Diamond Creek and Panton Hill. We offer a range of short courses and community programs. From learning a new language, to photography or connecting socially through a MakerSpace group, there are lots of ways to upskill and connect.

Our Shop in our Shire campaign puts the spotlight on local businesses. We are keen to promote your social media accounts, your shopping options, experiences and events.

Planning and Business Concierge Service 

Council’s Planning and Business Concierge offers free advice to local businesses on navigating Council’s permit processes. 

Providing one point of contact, the service aims to improve the experience for customers who are considering starting a business or thinking of expanding an existing one. 

The Concierge is available to help guide applicants through each step of the process, providing clear advice, saving time and money. 

Council can assist with: 

  • Navigating the necessary approvals 
  • Accessing relevant advice and support 
  • Providing translation of regulatory requirements and feedback to draft plans to meet regulation 
  • Improving the quality of information in applications for faster decisions
