You can drive the length of Main Hurstbridge Road twice a day for a year and still not notice a shopfront changing hands. Then one Saturday you’re walking instead of driving, and there are some names you’ve never seen.
Here’s who’s new around the Creek, and what each of them actually does.

Somewhere different for dinner
Social Moonbox, the Mexican street food takeaway has opened at Shop 8, 72 Main Hurstbridge Road. Burritos, bowls, loaded fries, burgers, toasties, and family feast boxes if you’re feeding a crowd. Dine in, takeaway or Uber Eats. They’re open 10:30am – 8:30pm
It’s a useful addition, because the Thursday-night “nobody wants to cook” problem in this town has been solved by the same four options for a long time.
A gift shop worth the detour
her name was Nola, the gift and homewares boutique at 53 Chute Street stocks small makers and Australian designers — women’s clothing, sleepwear, bed linen, homewares and the sort of gift you can hand over without a receipt.
Note the hours before you go: Wednesday to Saturday 10–4, Sunday 10–2, closed Monday and Tuesday.
When your car needs some TLC
Located at 18 Elizabeth St, Yaks Bodyworks & Smash Repairs is your local specialist for everything from minor dents and scratch repairs to major accident smash repairs, insurance work and classic car restorations.
With a skilled team, modern equipment and a commitment to quality workmanship, they make getting your vehicle back on the road a smooth, hassle-free experience. Open Mondays through Fridays, 8AM–4PM.
And one on the corner
YPA Diamond Creek, the real estate agency at 77 Main Hurstbridge Road handles residential sales, property management and leasing, led by Richard Stockman and Carla Primiano. They do free appraisals, which is a low-stakes way to find out what the last two years have done to your street.
Every one of these is somebody who signed a lease in a town of about ten thousand people and backed themselves. Most of them are trading against a chain that does the same thing ten minutes down the hill in Greensborough.
The difference is made up of very small decisions — getting your coffee here instead of there, buying the birthday present on the way home instead of online at 11pm. Nothing dramatic. It just adds up.
Next time you’re driving down Main Hurstbridge Road, park for ten minutes and have a look at what’s changed.
